Dommin-Love Is Gone [Album] 8 Feb 2010, 2:54 pm
Fronted by Kristofer Dommin, Dommin are one of the newest additions to the Roadrunner Records stable in 2010 and this is the band's debut album ‘Love Is Gone’. The first thing that greets you when you put the CD in the player is the sound of twinkling, as if someone has just opened a music box, although it seems more like its Pandora’s. Tolling bells and Kristofer Dommin’s Danzig meets Peter Steele light vocals come into play and we’re launched into the first single ‘My Heart, Your Hands’ with its refrain of ‘How can I trust you, with my heart in your hands’. So far so goth.
Over the next 14 tracks we are met with a variety of different styles and sounds, each song a macabre snapshot in its own right. From the AFI meets H.I.M whilst sound tracking Tim Burton swing of ‘Dark Holiday’ or the cathartic melancholy of the title track ‘Love Is Gone’ and ‘Closure’ even down to the violin and piano led finale of ‘Remember’ there is something for everyone.
These are big songs with huge choruses designed for arenas and festivals that somehow feel intimate, like they were written just for you.
Lyrically the album deals with the spectrum of relationships everything from one night stands, trust, betrayal, break ups and obsession is covered in dark fashion in a way that would have Ville Valo reaching for a notepad.
Roadrunner have definitely stumbled onto a winner by signing Dommin as goth rock hasn’t sounded this fresh in years. With bands like H.I.M and Type O Negative content on just writing the same album for the rest of their careers there is now a gap in the market for a new Goth poster boy to adorn teenage girl’s walls, and Kristofer Dommin is certainly that man.
‘Love Is Gone’ is an album that is both fresh and addictive and could easily see the band break out in a big way. Dommin have already supported Lacuna Coil on their recent UK tour and have now been added as main support to H.I.M’s March UK tour you can bet that you’ll be seeing a lot of Dommin this year.
The bottom line is love might be gone, but don’t count on Dommin going anywhere any time soon

John Q Public - Voices of Refusal EP 8 Feb 2010, 12:00 pm
The band have been playing, writing and recording with the aim of putting out their eagerly awaited full-length album in 2010. After the Haiti disaster however, John Q Public have decided to put out a short EP, featuring tracks from their forthcoming album, on Monday 8th February, with all proceeds going to the Haiti Relief Fund.
John Q Public’s Voices of Refusal EP was recorded, engineered, produced, mixed and mastered by Chris "MUG5" Maguire and has three brand new tracks, as well as a live version of an old favourite, and a music video to the title track ‘Voices of Refusal’.
This EP will be self-released, with some backing from Go Steady Records, and will be available as Pay What You Want. John Q Public will pass on 100% of all money made, to the Haiti Relief Fund.
With a disaster of this magnitude, for those of us in the UK, lucky enough to have money to spend on luxuries, we have a responsibility to help those affected by this horrendous earthquake. Haiti is one of the world’s poorest countries, and they are relying entirely on international aid to come through this unmitigated atrocity.
The ‘Voices of Refusal EP’ is available for download as Pay What You Want, so people can pay as much (or as little) as they can afford to give, in return for not only some KICKIN’ punk rock tracks, but also the knowledge that their donation will go towards the biggest humanitarian relief cause in recent history. Anything we can send out there will be gratefully received by the hundreds of thousands of Haitians that have lost everything from their homes, possessions, and even their families.
Please check out www.myspace.com/johnqpublic and/or www.facebook.com/johnQpublicUK for more information on the band and the release.

RCRD LBL Features 33Hz’s Remix of The Asteroids Galaxy Tour 7 Feb 2010, 4:48 pm
In December, Paper Garden’s PR branch brought you its first taste of Copenhangen music in the form of Alcoholic Faith Mission. Now working in the same vain, we bring you 33Hz – a band who seems to share the same love for the musical wonderland that is Denmark.
Having just released their remix of Copenhagen band The Asteroids Galaxy Tour’s “The Sun Ain’t Shining No More” track on RCRD LBL, this is a perfect lead-in track for what 33Hz has up their sleeves in the coming months!
In prepartion for their new single, “See The Light/Under The Sun”, coming this April on Mental Groove records featuring remixes by Prins Thomas, FM Belfast, KS & Le Jad, New York's Bim Marx and the premiere remix of the Paris minimal/Dutch house DJ duo, The Salty Bit, 33Hz decision to release this remix has proven its worth as a one-off dance party for the winter soul, leading in to their full-length album coming out this summer.
Check out 33Hz’s European tour video compilation here as well:
BIOGRAPHY
To listen to 33hz is to transform one’s life into a TV Series based in The Upper East Side, New York, where life is only careless digital love and banter, with synth riffs a-plenty and cherry flavored flirting in the background. All in all, to listen to 33hz is to push pop perfection to its paroxysm. Benny Lowe, Timothy G. Wagner and Brion Isaacs, the three members of the New York band have the talent to create tracks that are totally relevant and yet utterly timeless, examples of a perfect cross-over between French Touch elegance and current T-Pain influenced RnB, always very emotional yet still hugely danceable.
Add to this a tiny hint of Disco, and you obtain anthems for neo-romantics, who make love rhyme with neons, and who have both vocoder and stars in their eyes.

Xfm's Eddy Temple Morris talks about living without silence 7 Feb 2010, 4:43 pm
"I have a constant high-pitched tone in one or both of my ears, and it's something I carry with me always, wherever I go. I don't notice it in the day, there's too much ambient noise in London, even at night. It's when I go somewhere really quiet, in the countryside, that it really affects me. I lie down to sleep and, with the absence of planes, trains and automobiles, I realise the awful truth that I cannot hear the silence. That lovely sense of total quiet, of blissful peace, is something I will never experience again".
He adds that through the advice of the BTA and a bespoke ear-plug from Musicians Hearing Services he has managed to reduce the impact of the condition, but that he is still committed to educating as many gig-goers as possible about the risks of exposure to very loud music, and of what they can do to reduce those risks.
He explains: "As long as I have the power to do something about it, I'll communicate, pressure, evangelise, talk, listen, rant, and anything else I can think of to make sure that you don't find yourself in the same position as me of never hearing silence again".
Eddy will launch Tinnitus Awareness Week by hosting a special event at Cargo in London on Monday night in which 25 DJs - who all suffer from tinnitus themselves - will all contribute a track to create the ulimate DJ mash-up. Among the DJs to appear are Adam F, Jon Carter, Way Out West, Lottie, Streetlife DJs, Burn The Negative, Wrongtom, Cassette Jam, Jagz Kooner and Eddy himself.

BLACK DANIEL Album: "LET'S GET SUED" released 8TH MARCH 2010 7 Feb 2010, 4:19 pm
So far, so good, right? Right. Well, sort of. The first two singles 'Chelsea Teardrops' and 'Say Hello' had alternative radio all over them (Lauren Laverne sessions, Colin Murray's Record of the Week, XFM plays etc), the likes of NME and Time Out were bigging them up at press, and the band's relentless gigging earned them the status of one of London's most exciting party bands, owing to their unpredictable, raucous shows. And then, what should be the pinnacle of any young band's career - they released their debut album... ' Hard Times On the Way' came out in November '08, and ONE WEEK later distributor Pinnacle went bust and the album disappeared into a black, contracts, paperwork-shaped hole for nearly a whole year. Finally, with the help of a company called Icebreaker, the band have their record back, which remains the same, apart from some shiny new artwork and some remixing/re mastering tweaks.
In the year that the band kissed goodbye to their first LP - undeterred - Black Daniel decided to get DIY about things and set up their own label - Dustbowl Recordings - and to make another album. Et voila - Black Daniel would like to present 'Let's Get Sued', their glorious second record, which they're delighted to announce will be released on March 8th 2010!
'Let's Get Sued' is drenched in the musical traits that got Black Daniel noticed in the first place. Scuzzy, distorted, garage sounds, the shared vocal duties and interplay between Lamik and Craig (Lamik's English drawl, Craig's uber NY intonations), and the brazen, stomping songwriting, make this a band with one of the most identifiable sounds around.
The album features the acclaimed singles ‘Here Comes Caesar’ and ‘Look Away Sancho’. They play on those Velvet Underground comparisons perfectly, infusing a stomping glam rhythm onto Black Daniel’s quintessential garage swagger. But with tracks like ‘Money’ and ‘Lonely Screen Boy’, the guys (somewhat) slow things down to a dirty choral psychedelia akin to the likes of Nick Cave and The Doors, proving they ain’t no one trick pony. By the time ‘Lonely Screen Boy’ closes proceedings, the wash of musically induced adrenaline will seem so powerful, you’ll struggle not to hit the play button again.
As if the record itself isn't enough reward for your hard earned £s, the ever-well-connected Black Daniel recruited their Brooklyn buddies Faile (extremely well respected artist collective... let's call them the Banksy of NYC) to be on album artwork duties, which essentially makes your Black Daniel album a collector's item! With a limited run of physical copies being made, these bespoke album designs are a classic piece of Faile history.
Black Daniel's DIY work ethic also extends to how they promote their releases. Earlier this summer, they released their lauded single 'Here Comes Caesar’, which they marked with a week of last minute, impromptu gigs in Soho including a 5 night residency in a strip joint, guerilla street gigs and a Black Daniel soundsystem (OK, them walking around with a boombox, terrorising Soho). The lead up to the release of 'Let's Get Sued' is filled with similarly unique ways of spreading the Black Daniel love. Par exemple; over the Christmas period, Black Daniel unveiled a rather special, festive, musical treat for their fans, which will arrive down their web-chimneys on December 7th in the form of ‘The 12 Days of Blaxmas’, where fans could get a free download for 12 days. The band had 2000 downloads and ended the whole shebang with a celebratory Nativity set at 93ft East and that first album for free to boot.
All of the singles in the lead up to the album release will be released online only, and FREE, for starters. What's more, fans chose the most recent single, ‘Look Away Sancho’, via an online poll at Black Daniel. ‘Look Away Sancho’, can be streamed and downloaded now at Black Daniel and was named as one of Drowned In Sound’s Singles of The Year for 2009. The new double A-side single ‘I Love You But Don’t Touch Me ‘Cos Your Sick/Move Like Royalty’ will be released one week prior to the album, with a competition winning remix alongside.
Double Vision - New MySpace / Song Teaser for upcoming Digital Single 7 Feb 2010, 4:06 pm
Look for a full EP to be released this Summer featuring tracks produced by Jeff "STRESS" Davis (Gym Class Heroes) and more. RIYL: Little Brother, Slum Village, Pharcyde, De la soul, Souls of Mischief, Kriss Kross.
Biography
The world has two new musical genius's to the hip-hop throne, Johnathan (Mackamillion) and Jarred (Mr.Mackmore) aka, Double Vision (DV). Double Vision are twin brothers that have been compared to duos such as Kriss Kross, Camp Lo, Little Brother, Outkast and the recent chicago based duo The Cool Kids, for their impeccable style of dress code. "We like to set trends for what should and shouldn't be. We're not gangsters, we're more like a funky twist of backpackers and macks". Mackamillion says. With being born in a city with such artistic energy and cultural diversity (venice, CA), and then living in between cities throughout the mid-west and the south, it's no wonder these baby faced men have such old souls and insight. (which reflects in their music.)
Rhyming since the tender age of 7, they first emerged as Reflection, later on changing their name to what is now known as Double Vision (DV). From there they hooked with long time partner Bill Blast aka Motion Plus as their main producer, who eventually hooked up with Jia Davis formerly of the infamous STL duo Bits N Pieces, who is also featured on their first studio album: NO EXPLANATION! When asked about their genre of music they so proudly claim as their own, Mr.Mackmore explains, "we speak for the men and women who seem to naturally attract the opposite sex without what some people call game or the use of pick up lines. As for the backpacker part, we're talking about those independent artist, Hip Hop purist and entrepreneurs who's got their own hustle, no matter what genre of music or business their involved in".
Double Vision addresses the issues of the common folks, not the "iced out jewels" or drug dealer stories that our ears are currently saturated with. Double Vision represents the real issues we all go through. It's obvious these guys just want to bring the fun back into music. Sit back, relax and be prepared. Double Vision is solely interested and dedicated to making innovative and creative music."at the end of the day, we make music for those who actually have a brain", says Mackamillion. DV's latest release, the new Digital EP titled: Bifocal will be released on No Sleep Records, which is due to hit all digital music outlets in June 2010. The EP will include production from L.A. based up-and-coming producer Jansport J, (Curly Tops & Nautica Jackets Mixtape) Marcus D, (Revival of the Fittest) and Jeff "Stress" Davis(Gym Class Heroes "As Cruel As School Children" ("Clothes Off!" STRESS Remix). NSR welcomes Double Vision to the No Sleep family, as they are the first Hip-Hop act to sign with No Sleep Records.

Their increasingly epic live shows have seen them be championed by many, home and abroad, as one of the most promising bands to emerge from Ireland in recent years. When UK webzine Drowned In Sound had a week of articles in April 2009 dedicated to the revival and diverse influence of the early 90s shoegaze scene, Butterfly Explosion were amongst the international artists highlighted as ones to watch.
Recording on the debut album Lost Trails began late 2008 with producer Torsten Kinsella (God Is An Astronaut) and is released March 1st 2010 through Revive Records. 'Closer', the first single, has been receiving extensive airplay from Ireland's leading alternative music shows such as Paul McLoone(TodayFM), featuring in his Best Of 2009 show, and Dan Hegarty(RTE 2FM) who described the track as "My Bloody Valentine meets M83 meets Sigur Ros in Heaven".

A SHORELINE DREAM RELEASES TRACK, “HYPERMODE” 7 Feb 2010, 3:42 pm
A few years later, and now on their second full-length release, “Recollections Of Memory,” A Shoreline Dream has taken it a step further, recording the album in singer Ryan Policky’s “live-in” studio where they recorded all of their albums, but infusing it with a new found energy and fervor, partially provided to them by the newest addition to the band, drummer Sean Merrell. The songs carry with them the earnestness of a band that is still fighting to be heard and to make an impact, but that has done a significant amount of evolving and maturing since their early days.
With their second full-length under their belt, A Shoreline Dream has been pounding the pavement all year, bringing their music to as many willing ears as possible. With a new track, “Hypermode” receiving a lot of attention, an upcoming performance at SXSW, and a new video for their standout track “Manhattan Beach” just hitting the airwaves, there is a lot to check out right now in the world of A Shoreline Dream. Constantly in and out of the studio, working on an EP tentatively set for May and an LP expected to follow later this year, A Shoreline Dream shows no signs of slowing down. The band will continue to release tracks from their upcoming EP, as well as videos, as they make their way down to Austin.

Dead Zone Boys is an infectious soundtrack to humanity's last stand against decay and the dead. One hand with mic and the other a shotgun, Jookabox pushes through as troubador and protagonist to free the decayed city and its few outposed survivors of the fear of death. He is our protector, no need to lose hope. The bone-on-bone drumbeat that opensDead Zone Boys pounds the sound of living death, creeping forward, maw open wide. The beat is serving notice: you are about to be consumed.
The third album from Jookabox (previously known as Grampall Jookabox, Indianapolis-born David "Moose" Adamson and Co.), is a love story meets psychedelic zombie-musical. The zombie part came easy: Moose grew up on the east side of Indianapolis in the 90s, an area plagued by constant recession, pandemic homicide, and racial tension. A few strong tribes chose to stay in the area despite constant warnings from fleeing acquaintances. It was this frantic energy and violence that infused itself into theJookabox experience. One thing is certain here: if vacant strip malls occupied only by shitdragged liquor stores and fluorescent check cashing joints are foreign to you, thenDead Zone Boys will be your guidebook, Jookabox your tour guide. This is more evident now than ever on what is sure to become a cult classic.
Jookabox’s debut record, Scientific Cricket, sampled a kind of primordial blues sound, children's sidewalk-chalk rhymes and Appalachian folk. Sophomore follow-up 'Ropechain' pinwheeled like a kaleidoscope through old-time spirituals, punk, and club music hip-hop, blending these disparate elements into a cohesive and unique synthesis. Thematically both albums have dealt extensively with the paranormal, race, and madness. Last year after wrapping up Ropechain, the genre-warping Jookabox lost a Grampall (after a haunting vision), and regrouped, gaining a second member/drummer, Ostry Okerson. This year Jookabox absorbed two-fifths of Indianapolis' psych-pop ringleaders, Everthus the Deadbeats. Led by the stalwart Moose, this new band delivers a tightly realized live show and album replete with nods to early Ween, Black Sabbath, and fellow Indiana native, the King of Pop.

Zico Chain @ O2 Islington Academy 2 [Live] 7 Feb 2010, 8:40 am
I make my way to the front praying for my Nikon’s safety, and earn a favourable spot near a bunch of kids. Seriously. When I say kids I mean it. They must be like ten years old. Is this the same Zico Chain I’ve been listening to on Spotify before leaving the house? Who let these kids out? Are they related to the band members maybe?
Next to me on my right side, a young female fan warns me and my lens that she’ll be jumping up and down a lot, and we get into a conversation about how she’s been looking forward to this, how disappointed she is about the choice of venue, how she’s been “converting” most of her mates and how she wishes she had done more and got them enough public to fill the bigger Academy. Street Team Leader? Next to her, a presumably middle aged man with a long beard and long grey–ish hair, holding tight to his front spot. Zico Chain surely attracts a diverse and passionate fan base.
While expecting some powerful, highly charged rock’n’roll to explode in the room, when ‘More than life’ starts it reminds me of Nirvana rather than Motorhead or System of a Down. As we go along with the set list, the Zico Chain guys prove to be extremely versatile and complete musicians, flirting at times with Hardcore Superstar like in ‘Rohypnol’, adopting a sound and vocals reminiscent of Marilyn Manson in ‘Where would you rather be’ and letting out a detonation of anger that would please Rage Against The Machine towards the end of their set. There’s screaming, but it’s powerful screaming coming from Chris Glithero’s guts, rather than an annoying exaggerated vomit sound from an abused sore throat, as I hear too often since Rammstein. The icing on the cake comes from Ollie Middleton’s terrific drum work, and everything is just rock perfect.
The mosh pit bursts out in all its glory, spreading back from the front row like a human tsunami and it’s time to bring my Nikon to safety. Walking towards the rear end of the auditorium, I curiously observe an audience made of all ages, genders and styles. Not everybody likes anger, but we all have some of it deep down. Zico Chain can get the demons out of you like exorcists and turn turn them into a powerful human fuel. You’ll leave their gigs recharged and smiling.
While waiting for their next full length, I would suggest you check out Zico Chain’ 2009 EP “These birds will kill us all” and keep an eye on their diary for a show near you. I definitely will.

Built To Spill - There is no Enemy [Album] 6 Feb 2010, 9:50 pm
That's not to say it's bad by any means, or even that it's particularly boring - though the last few numbers seem hell-bent on slowing your heart rate - it's just that it's not that exciting either, and when given the sheer effort put into it by Martsch, it's hard to understand what exactly it was he was doing, or why it took him so long. Whatever it was, Martsch's frustration almost resulted in him cutting the record short, and even disowning it. However, even for the few gems that do manage to shine through, his perseverance has in fact seemed to have paid off, to some extent.
'Aisle 13' and 'Hindsight' are the standard-bearers, with swirling keys, crunching guitars and infinitely charming vocals permeating their catchy choruses - one swift clip of the latter is enough to assert Built To Spill's title as progenitors of contemporary American indie (sounds so much like Death Cab... it's eerie). After the stomping 'Good Ol Boredom', 'Life's a Dream' leads the album into a slowly grinding shift in momentum that occasionally recalls the more sterile moments on Dinosaur Jr's 'Farm' - guitars sounding like they're just planted there without really breaking through or enhancing the songs.
Again, it's not that any of this is particularly awful or incredibly hard to listen to - as a matter of fact it makes a perfect casual background listen, with it's occasionally dreamy textures lulling you in and out of a state of pure distraction - it's just that it's all a little underwhelming. Let's just hope that after finally letting this album see the light of day, the pay-off for Martsch (and co.) will be the energy to take the next one in his stride.
Killswitch Engage - House of Blues, Boston [Live] 6 Feb 2010, 1:26 pm

The night started off with two other bands, Dark Tranquility followed by The Devil Wears Prada. I had never heard of Dark Tranquility but they seemed like they fit the typical metal genre, and The Devil Wears Prada was heavy as always.
As soon as the openers were done, a whole stage crew was out setting up for Killswitch. They had these crazy risers and light panels behind stage. Something I had not seen at the House of Blues before.

Killswitch Engage fans are in their own breed and I could tell they were all dying to see Howard Jones run onto stage. The lights dimmed, and the crowd screamed. Killswitch Engage opened with 'Rose of Sharyn'. The combination of screaming and deep metal undertones got the crowd moving. The security in the Killswitch Engage barricade was beefed up by about 5 more people.

Adam Dutkiewicz was running around in a cape pointing at fans and it was pretty entertaining to say the least. The light show was spectacular as well. Killswitch Engage had some extremely bright spot lights on each side of the stage that would light up so bright that I couldn't even see. Not so great for my photography work, but great for the crowd!

The next two songs were 'Reckoning' and 'Fixation.' They were just as heavy and loud as the first song and the crowd was turning into a waterfall of crowd-surfers. There were also a lot of ice and cups being thrown on stage, which I think is stupid. Why throw dangerous things at a band you like? Anyways, I walked away from the show with a high-energy buzz. Killswitch Engage's music was so loud, fast, and exciting. I don't usually listen to this genre, but after checking out Killswitch Engage live I am very interested in pursuing them further.

The Lowdown: Becky from You Say Party! We Say Die! 6 Feb 2010, 12:29 pm
Two full lengths later, with plenty of lengthy and enjoyable yet equally exhausting tours behind them, the band decided to take some time off from the road in 2008 to record their newest album, "XXXX".
Set for release February 9, 2010 with Paper Bag Records, this dark dance-pop five piece will embark on a full national tour across the U.S. to promote this exciting release.
You formed in 2003 but have only had 3 albums out in that time. Do you work slowly or are you all perfectionists?
Actually, 3 albums, 1 EP, 1 remix album, and half a dozen 7"singles since 2003 is pretty good in our books. You must consider the amount of time it takes to tour each album. We work hard for each album. Especially this latest effort, “XXXX”. This one I feel we definitely focussed more energies into. I have always had a tendency to be a perfectionist, which is funny because a lot of what I have done in this band has come about through trial and error. A painful learning curve at times. Where we are now, with “XXXX” is a good place. I am happy with how far we have come and feel like 2010 is going to be a really positive year for us. So many dreams have already come true, and I believe in the possibility of making the impossible, possible.
Tell me about "the smoking spokes"...
We were just a group of friends that got together in downtown Abbotsford to ride around on our vintage bicycles, drink in alleys and have fun. Devon and Derek were not a part of this, they were a part of a much feared skate gang called the PCP.
“Danskwad”. So you have an alternative language that takes this idea further; like Pigeon Klingon?
Uh, no. Danskwad was "DANSK" "WAD". They were our friends who came to our first shows. They danced up a storm at our shows, so we anointed them with the title, "Danskwad."
“Anywhere anytime”. So what is the oddest place and time you have played?
Probably when we played "the gap (between the rich and the poor) at a church service while they were passing around the offering. Or maybe in Ravenna Italy when we played on the beach after I saved a woman from drowning. She stayed and watched the show wrapped up in a blanket. Or maybe in Beijing, when I was electrocuted by an ungrounded mic. I touched a girl's forehead in the crowd and the electrical current shot from my finger tip. She thought I had magical powers. I think I do too.
So what are the artistic endeavours and meaningful employments that you had to do in 08?
We are still working these jobs when not on the road. Derek is a graphic designer, Stephen and I work at two different group homes, supporting people living with disabilities. Devon works for the Portland Hotel Society in the Downtown East Side and Krista has been working the same job she has had for years at an organization called Hope International, which provides relief and other services to developing countries.
Do you have a political or religious agenda with the aid projects for the poor and disabled? Or is love all you need a la Beatles?
No we have no religious or political agenda. We just know what is needed and if you are able and willing than why not? Caring for others is all I have ever really desired to do. “XXXX” is all you need, definitely.
Do you think people still know who Laura Palmer is and what show she was from?
At every show, there are a few people stoked on the Twin Peaks references. We have some awesome plans in the works for making a music video for this song. I have been dreaming of Laura and Stephen being Agent Cooper. Dreams come true.
The tour. 3 days at SXSW is a biggie. Do you have lots of fans down there?
Actually, I have no idea. It has been years since we have entered the states, so it will be very interesting to see if we have fans down there. The internet has shown us there is fan life existing and expressing anticipation on our arrival. Keep your eyes peeled at SXSW for any last minute shows we announce!
The pic of the band in sunglasses. Is one member wearing those prescription darkening shades?
No I don't believe so.
Elvis or Simon and Garfunkel?
I got to go with Elvis, I mean, "whoa! those moves". One individual that I support, she has a major love for Elvis. We listen to his records and dance around my living room. It is one of the highlights of my life.
Anything else you would like to say?
Thanks for covering the band, really appreciate it!
All the best,
xobecky

Pacha NYC presents CHUS & CEBALLOS + LOUIE VEGA & ANANÉ 6 Feb 2010, 5:45 am
Pacha NYC residents Chus & Ceballos are recognized around the clubbing world as one of its most exciting and dazzling DJ and production duos. With excellent production, coveted remixes, and marathon DJ sets, they are able to capture the genuine “Iberian’ flavor that they have come to represent. It is a style that is known as a blend which falls somewhere between house and techno but stays grounded in the unmistakable tribal beat of percussion. The duo’s latest release Chus & Ceballos Back On Tracksrepresents this distinct sound over a 2CD span. Featuring tracks from the duo themselves, along with the likes of Umek, Dennis Ferrer, and Oscar G, Back On Trackscontinues to open the gap for those who make the tribal sound their way of life.
Described by Billboard magazine as “combining earthiness with glamour and roots-deep house music knowledge with pop wise diversity,” Anané has forged an international career that has included appearances around the world, and a rich musical repertoire. The singer, songwriter, producer and DJ follows up her debut album with Ananesworld. The album features a mixture of dance, reggae, rock, and R&B soul, with world and Caribbean influences. Adding to its intensely personal feel, the album was produced by New York house icon, and husband, Louie Vega. Ananesworldtranscends the traditional construction of a dance album and provides listeners with something truly personal. The albums mix of soulful originals, emotional covers, and top notch collaborators represent Anané and Louie Vega’s richly diverse musical roots.
Anané ‘Ananesworld’ to be released on February 16th on Nervous Recordings.
Chus & Ceballos ‘Back On Tracks’ to be released on March 6th on Nervous Recordings.

Infesticons "Kick Anthem" Single out 5th April (Big Dada) 6 Feb 2010, 5:33 am
Combining Bollywood polyrhythms with punk attitude, Ladd and his band rip through “Kick…” with the kind of abandon and energy which can’t be faked. Saul Williams takes on backing vox duties, having turned up at the studio while Mike was recording. Ladd’s lyrics, meanwhile, subvert the standard rock themes of love and betrayal, ending with him getting ready to smother his ex-lover in his favourite body oils: “Nubian Hawkwind, Egyptian Pinky Ring, Lumumba AK, Angolan Whisper, Portugese Scum, Spanish Dead Men” and so on, the most innocent listings packed with subtext.
One of the true rebel geniuses of Black music, Mike Ladd operates at the intersection of hip hop, punk, funk and spoken word, in the process making some of the most vital and intelligent music of his times. Alongside his Infesticons trilogy for Big Dada he has recorded a succession of solo albums for, amongst others, Mercury, !K7 and legendary hardcore label ROIR. His work with jazz pianist Vijay Iyer has been widely acclaimed, touring major jazz festivals and being released on classic imprint Savoy. He likes playing with toy soldiers.

Winston Audio offers The Red Rhythm for free download 6 Feb 2010, 5:06 am
The Red Rhythm is the first full length from Georgia’s Winston Audio, but by no means is Winston Audio some new band. Winston Audio formed in 2002 sporting a younger sound that lacked the romantic fury they have now. As the days have faded into the past members have changed, as they do in bands, but when the current line-up of Daniel Dewitt, Dan Gleason, Zach Brown, Michael Adkins, and Shane Lenzen O'Conell began to play and write together the sound expanded, more textures found homes, and waves rushed in for melodies to harmonize over drenched drunk guitars.
Touches of Seattle darkness, Southern heartfelt indie-rock, these phrases get glued to Winston Audio to describe their sound, their sonic output, but neither of these really describes them. As the name of the album suggests Winston Audio are slaves to a rhythm, a rhythm that takes the listener to a place they have been to before, a place familiar enough for them to let lose and feel the great release only a band can bring, no where do you see this more than when Winston Audio takes to the stage, their true home. Live they have become known for communicating a subtlety in loudness that truly puts them in a class all of their own. Stages have been shared with Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra, FUN, Colour Revolt, Straylight Run, Anathallo, and mewithoutyou.
This is just the beginning for Winston Audio. The rhythms and hums of the music have not even begun to travel their distances.
On the one year anniversary of the release of The Red Rhythm,
Southern boys Winston Audio offer their self released LP up for free download to all!

BALANCE 016: AGORIA + WMC 2010 DATES 6 Feb 2010, 4:58 am
The man otherwise known as Sebastien Devaud wasn’t bitten by the dance music bug until he was out of his teens, but once he began hunting imported 12”s from the US and Germany in his native France, there was no turning back. His production career began in 1999, with his debut album Blossom and first compilation following in 2003 – and it was clear even in those early days that a serious new talent was emerging. Blending the throb and groove of deeper, stripped-back techno with a keen sense of musicality, emotion and atmosphere, his is a sound that transcends beyond mere dancefloor disposability.
Agoria explains his intention for this intricate compilation: “The concept of both CDs is all about balance. Literally. In my mind a balance is not a middle position; it's a perfect equilibrium. I’m trying to be as close as possible to this idea. I have tried to find this fine line where the balance is just right.” To accomplish this perfectly-weighted contrast, he’s cherry-picked from a myriad of genres and subgenres in his “beat open-minded” fashion, combining a wealth of material from newcomers across the spectrum (including no less than 12 exclusives!) with more established producers, classics and unknown gems from his broad musical past, and put it all together in an unconventional, challenging manner. “In the end, more than a DJ compilation, this is a manifesto of my passion for music and for mixing” he explains.
Disc 1 casts Agoria not simply as a functional dancefloor engineer, but as a musical craftsman, an arranger, a conductor. It’s the sound DJing evolved – the art of composition, contrast and texture, toying with your emotion and patience and pushing and pulling your attention in different directions. We begin all beatless and atmospheric, moving through the Viennese downtempo beauty of Tosca and the haunting acoustic pop of Emiliana Torrini and onwards into Agoria’s own blend of operatics and deep electronica on "Altre Voci". Glimpse’s "Train In Austria Pt.2" catches us off guard with its intense emotion, before the helmsman ushers us unexpectedly towards organic instrumentation and disco grooves, all warm and familiar after the heady electronics that went before. A delicate, blessed-out climax lays the mix down to rest.
Disc 2 sees Agoria go for the 4/4 jugular, with more of the trademark sound that he is recognised for. But it’s not quite as simple as that. Even more so than on the first mix, he combines and sequences tracks in every different way, splicing several together, reintroducing the same track twice or four times, comparing and contrasting different flavours. “I thought that to find the right balance, I needed to use all the ways of mixing. Editing tracks but also letting entire tracks play. Playing 3 or 4 times the same tracks, or spinning some for just a few seconds. Loopy or not. Exclusive, classic or covers, bizarre or easy listening, happy or trippy. 4 tracks together or just one. Loosing the listener for a minute to re-catch him the minute after. Spinning a classical music work of Jonny Greenwood at the peak time. Going up and then down. Starting and finishing with the same tracks.” Familiar names like Marc Antona, Chris Carrier and Mark Broom supply a steady throb of techno and tech house rhythms - melody percolating the mix at the right moments - leading up to a dreamy, euphoric climax, laden with the joyous pianos of Serge Santiago’s re-rub of Shit Robot and Martyn’s heavenly reworking of Efdemin. Two sumptuous vocal tracks round off this incredible oeuvre, the perfect finale to bring the mix back down to earth after some epic peaks.
This superb compilation is as deep and rewarding as a well-woven novel, the dénouement of the story unfolding as the mix evolves through Agoria’s musical DNA. Yet another essential addition to the compilation series that is fast becoming the new benchmark for ambitious DJs and demanding listeners alike.

Thunder Power announce tour dates bringing them from Omaha to Austin for SXSW 6 Feb 2010, 4:37 am
Yes, Thunder Power’s music draws a listener in with an earnestness that makes a dreary day a little less dreary, lofting in the realms of murky, folk-laden ballads and chamber pop soirees.
In 2009, Thunder Power embarked on multiple nationwide tours, released two EPs (following up their debut 2008 release, “Love Yourself” via Slumber Party Records), recorded a Daytrotter session and made an appearance at the CMJ Music Marathon ’09, solidifying themselves as among the best of a batch of upcoming bands out of the still hot Omaha music scene.
Their latest release is a split EP with Toledo, Ohio’s The 1959 Hat Co., set to come out March 2nd on Slumber Party Records, both digitally and in a limited 10-inch vinyl run. To date, this will be Thunder Power’s fourth official release, fourth official EP and second official split-EP.
On the horizon is the European release of their now extended debut EP “Love Yourself” via UK-based label Mono Music. That’ll make their first five releases all EPs. Well, sources say the band is currently hard at work piecing together material for their first full length. And they plan on unveiling some of this new material at a string of dates in March, including appearances in Austin during SXSW week.

The Songs from the Heart CD and DVD include contemporary hits like Mariah Carey’s “When You Believe” and Billy Joel’s “Goodnight My Angel” as well as the Irish classics “Galway Bay” and “My Lagan Love”. As a unique all-female ensemble, Celtic Woman continues to have mainstream success without the aid of traditional sales drivers such as radio or video airplay. No other all-female ensemble of this particular adult contemporary genre can claim 5 million albums sold, two top 10 album debuts on the Billboard Top 200, 3 gold and platinum albums, 4 Top 5 Releases on the Billboard Top Video chart and a million concert tickets sold. They have succeeded by connecting directly to fans via their Public Television specials, their frequent touring and then having those fans share the experience with friends and loved ones.
Celtic Woman recently performed at the National Christmas Tree Lighting in Washington D.C. joining entertainers like Sheryl Crow, Common, Jordin Sparks and Ray LaMontagne. As a testament to the group’s ability to cross musical and cultural boundaries, the group was invited to perform on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars singing for 23 million viewers while their PBS TV specials have dominated the broadcast airwaves over the past five years.

LAS RUBIAS DEL NORTE’s ZIGUALA, IN STORES MARCH 9th 5 Feb 2010, 3:54 pm
After two albums – Rumba Internationale (2004) and Panamericana (2006) – that evoked a 1950s air, the musicians add new colors to their palette and ramble further in their repertoire for Ziguala. The band bids farewell, for the most part, to its beloved glockenspiel and brings in some zesty Farfisa organ, hints of distortion, some surf guitar and the vaguely mutant presence of effect pedals. But that’s not all. There’s also marimba, vibraphone, Hammond B-3 organ, and a string quartet sitting on a couple of tracks. This vivid instrumentation fires up a kaleidoscopic array of songs plucked from traditions – from Bollywood to Tex-Mex, Neapolitan folklore to Kurt Weill – that aren’t always what they seem.
Take the title track, for instance. “It’s originally a Greek song,” explains Olivier Conan, a co-founder of Las Rubias, who lends his native insouciance on the cuatro, “written in 1955 by rembetika great Manolis Hiotis. His version had strong bluesy feel to it. It was covered in the early 1960s by Greek singer Rena Dalia, who gave it a bit more of a Latin twist. We twisted a little more Latin out of it.” The word ziguala is a term of endearment in Greek, but it’s not so important what it means as what it evokes: a little mystery, a taste of the uncanny, the allure of lost horizons before Google Earth took all the fun out of our dreams of faraway places … and their corner jukeboxes, stacked with 45s that sound so strange, yet so familiar. “There’s a lot of that on this album,” Conan continues. Indeed, there’s a Bollywood song with a Latin source (fabled Indian composer S.D. Burman’s “Mana Janab”), a French song with a Spanish source (“Seguedille,” from Bizet’s Carmen), a piece from a German composer’s French opera (“J’attends un Navire,” from Kurt Weill’s Marie Galante), a Spanish song made famous by an Anglo-Belgian singer raised in America and Spain (Jeanette, of “Porque te Vas” fame) and, of course, Las Rubias using a mostly Latin filter on songs with diverse origin.
It’s a lively step forward for vocalists Hurst and Lamb. The “classically trained mezzo-gringas” (New York Press) met as members of the New York Choral Society and got together to sing duets. Unsatisfied with the classical material at hand, they first turned to Lydia Mendoza, the 1930s Mexican legend who was a favorite of Lamb’s. Soon enough, they were lending their angelic voices to everything cha-cha-cha, as adept at Mozart as Lecuona, and charming the regulars during engagements at their Brooklyn home base, the music venue Barbès.
“We use Latin music a little bit like the rest of the world uses rock’n’roll,” Conan says. “Because before rock’n’roll, there was the clave.” It’s the rhythmic pattern that is the heart of Afro-Cuban music, and by extension, the heart of Latin music. Even when the clave is not played, it always inferred in Latin music. From the influence of the 1930s’ rumba craze to the 1950s’ mambo craze, pop music around the world was dominated by various degrees of Latinazition. The clave, kind of like a virus, found itself in European music, Japanese and Malaysian pop, and a lot of pre-rock’n’roll American pop, in Greek music, in Egyptian music, in Bollywood. It was even re-introduced into African music (where it originally came from) in the Afro-Cuban form of Congolese soukous.
“But then came rock and roll and the powerful propaganda engine of the American youth movement,” Conan says. “Youth was electricity, which meant electric guitars and electric organs. Youth was energy, which meant drum kits. So rock’n’roll became youth and youth around the world emulated it, because nothing beats modern. That was the end of the clave domination outside of Latin America.”
Last Rubias play pop music as if the rock’n’roll tsunami had never happened. “Now, we know it’s not really the case,” Conan says. “But we like to make up our reality. In our case, playing this music has nothing to do with trying to emulate a particular culture. We’ve just imagined a world without rock’n’roll.”
Friendo (Michael Wallace From Women/Azeda Booth) To Release "Cold Toads" LP 5 Feb 2010, 3:52 pm
Michael (Women, Azeda Booth, Monkey) has been drumming since he was a child, playing in bands, and eventually wanted to explore the melodic side of music and songwriting on the guitar. Nicole (Puberty, Hunter-Gatherer, Topless Mongos), an avid music lover and collector, began to teach herself various instruments after being inspired by other musicians in her life. Henry (Beija Flor, Monkey), a polished bassist and guitarist, has taken on the role of drumming for the first time. The group has subsequently swapped roles from their respective instruments, becoming total amateurs creatively tapping into uncharted spaces.
The band chose to self-release Cold Toads on a limited run of unmastered cassettes, providing the perfect format for their intangible sound. Cold Toads is a home-made recording project, using whatever they could get their hands on; tape decks, 4 tracks to cassette, hand held portable recorders and built-in computer mics. The sound that emerges is a soothing lo-fi odyssey that transcends time and will only get better with each listen.
Through the St Ives label, run by the folks at Secretly Canadian, Friendo is releasing 200 limited edition, hand crafted vinyl albums to run alongside the digital itunes release. Cold Toads is also available on cassette.

Eels - End Times [Album] 5 Feb 2010, 2:49 pm
The tone of the album is an about turn from the central optimism of Eels last studio album, “Hombre Lobo (12 Songs of Desire)”, released just last summer. Described as a ‘divorce album’, “End Times” needs to be viewed in tandem with “Hombre Lobo” to be fully understood.
The two records bookend a relationship: “Hombre Lobo” depicting its optimistic, formative, stages whilst “End Times” focus is the splintering and post relationship aftermath. Viewed in this light, the startlingly bleak and stripped down sound of the album isn’t as shocking as the first listen would suggest. This is definitely a record which needs a third, fourth and fifth listen to fully appreciate its genius.
The distinctive Eels sound of E drawling over hooky guitars, repetitive drumbeats and music lesson percussion instruments is found in a muted form on several occasions, most notably on ‘Mansions of Los Feliz’ and ‘Paradise Blues’. ‘Unhinged’ is also rooted in the classic Eels sound, complete with tambourine and fast guitar chords, yet it still retains a sparse feel. It’s a skinny song which could benefit from a few more musical ‘curves’ (as several celebrity rags would say) to flesh out its bare bones. It’s missing something, just like the girl it describes, and for that inspired reflection alone, it’s the best track on the album (‘Gone Man’ coming a close second).
‘A Line in the Dirt’ is simply heartbreaking. The sparse lyrics complementing the soft beauty of the piano combine to make a classic ballad which seems destined to fill the ‘soft’ quota for late night rock radio shows for years to come. Likewise, ‘In My Younger Days’ drips with the raw pain underpinning the album. A single guitar competes with bizarre space-age, computerized blips which seem to have escaped from a Spielberg film or a Bowie album, circa the Ziggy Stardust years.
E taunts convention and plays with self indulgence with the spoken anecdote, ‘Apple Trees’ and again with ‘High and Lonesome’. One minute and six seconds worth of rain and distant thunderstorm, punctuated with the sound of an unanswered phone call and a knock at the door, perfectly captures the essence of the album: intense yet detached, reminding it’s listener that they are merely witnessing selected thoughts and feelings, not experiencing them in all their true gut wrenching and overwhelming agony.
Thank God, something about the final track, ‘On My Feet’, is redemptive. Whilst still as fraught and traumatic as you’d expect, it looks ahead to at least the expectation of the end to the emotional torment that screams throughout “End Times”, which in view of the rest of the album is a really, really positive revelation.
Despite the above negative spin on the negativity, “End Times” is a very good album. It’s quiet, creeping into your veins and it’s not afraid to push the envelope or compromise it’s concept for the benefit of making new fans, which ultimately, is what makes it brilliant. It’s unashamedly intense and whilst it’s not the best place to start your Eels education, there’s certainly enough here to keep current fans interested and returning to thumb through the layers and mysteries in the ongoing saga of the life of the man known as E. Let’s just hope for his sake, it takes a sunnier turn soon.
Sweet Apple Unveil "Love & Desperation" Cover Art 5 Feb 2010, 2:38 pm
It was rainy morning in December when John Petkovic got in his car heading eastward. He had no destination in mind, let alone plans for a band. He just wanted to drive away. "My mother had just died after a long, horrible illness," he says. "And I’d been totally devastated by so many things, all at once. I’d lost so much weight. I couldn’t eat or sleep. All I did was smoke cigarettes, one and after another after another."
John got in his car and went for a long smoke. Four hundred miles from his hometown of Cleveland, and out of the blue, he received a phone call from friend Dave Sweetapple. "I couldn’t believe he was driving around aimlessly," says Sweetapple, of Brattleboro, Vt. "When I found out he was so close to Vermont I told him to come over." Dave also called their mutual friend J. Mascis, who lives nearby in Amherst, Ma., and told him to come over. J did, and told John to start writing a bunch of songs when he got back home – so they could start a band.
John hadn’t played guitar for months. He came up with four songs on the ride home – including "I Can’t See You," with its haunting refrain, "I drove and drove and drove and drove. And drove and drove and drove and drove." Within three weeks, John was jamming with CV bandmate Tim Parnin – and they whittled 25 songs down to 12.
"Out of the blue, we had an album full of catchy tunes," says Parnin. "It’s one of the weirdest things I’ve experienced playing in bands." Even weirder, many of the songs are upbeat – fun and mockingly funny, with loud, brash guitars. "Do You Remember" is a driving anthem. "I’ve Got a Feeling That Won’t Change" is wounded pop. "Flying Up a Mountain" is a nihilist singalong.
Love & Desperation was recorded in Cleveland and Massachusetts. It was mixed by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady) and Don Depew (Guided By Voices, Cobra Verde). "I tell people that I saved John’s life by starting this band," says Mascis. "But they don’t believe me."
Sweet Apple is:
J. Mascis – Guitar god in Dinosaur Jr.; drummer in Witch. Played with Cobra Verde for a spell. Owns hundreds of guitar pedals and dozens of Adidas. Favorite color is purple. Worked in a coffee shop in India, even though he doesn’t drink coffee. Spends a lot of money at Whole Foods.
Tim Parnin – Guitarist in Cobra Verde. Plays guitar with former Faith No More singer Chuck Mosely. Former clothing designer. Cleveland Cavaliers season ticket holder. Partied with Shaq.
John Petkovic – Frontman for Cobra Verde. Still gets acting residuals from "The OC." Former aid to the Crown Prince of Yugoslavia. Ex-guitarist in Guided by Voices. Writes about bars and movies for Cleveland’s daily newspaper. Working on underwear-themed art show. Smokes less, eats more gummy bears.
Dave Sweetapple – Bassist in Witch. Native of Newfoundland, Canada (where they beat baby seals). Prefers rock over free jazz. Grew his hair long after seeing a photo of the Alice Cooper Band. Collects rare mushrooms. Trains a best-in-breed Scottish Deerhound named Cyril.

Black Sabbath to release deluxe expanded editions in April 2010 5 Feb 2010, 2:30 pm
The loss of the iconic voice might have signalled the end of the band. But, that wasn’t to be the case…
Ronnie James Dio, Rainbow’s founding lead vocalist whose lion’s roar had taken the band to gold and platinum status also parted company with his band. Several phone calls later and a chance meeting in, of all places, the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, Iommi invited Dio to join the remaining members of Black Sabbath for an impromptu rehearsal. Within fifteen minutes and one brand new song later (‘Children Of The Sea’), a new era of Black Sabbath was born.
The resultant album releases over the next few years proved without question, that this match was one without peer and succeeded without question in carrying the name of Black Sabbath (later with Vinnie Appice replacing Bill Ward on drums) proudly into the new decade. With an accompanying soundtrack featuring some of the most exciting and dramatic Heavy Metal to ever grace a studio or stage, Black Sabbath rose once more to a place of highest regard within elite Rock circles.
Such was the chemistry between these players, that two reformations of this Black Sabbath line-up have since been made, the second of which, occurring in 2007, went under the title of that first ground-breaking album, Heaven And Hell, and still survives at the dawn of yet another exciting new decade for Heavy Metal.
1981’s Mob Rules featured the lineup of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice. The deluxe expanded edition features a bonus disc of live material. Full track listing is as follows

By all accounts, The String Cheese Incident’s only performance in the past three years - at the ROTHBURY music festival in July 2009 - was magical. It left the band and its community itching for more. This summer, SCI steps into a new decade to deliver…
For this new era, SCI stays true to its roots - by nurturing their community and creating live musical experiences rather than just concerts. In 2010, look for SCI to continue to think out-of-the-box about their musical journey – hosting special events instead of the typical tour-routing, exploring new ways of releasing new recordings, and building on their reputation as innovators of fan participation.
The String Cheese Incident’s recent live release, Trick or Treat (SCI Fidelity Records / October 2009), offers fans a chance to relive the group’s legendary “Hulaween” Incidents. Known to perform special concerts comprised heavily of cover tunes each Halloween, Trick or Treat offers selections from SCI performances recorded at Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse (1998), Philadelphia’s Electric Factory (1999), Portland’s State Theatre (2000), New York City (2001), Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium (2002), Sin City’s Cox Pavilion (2003), and Madison Alliant Energy Center. The two-disc release is available now on CD, vinyl, and digitally at THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT.

THE POSTELLES SET TO RELEASE THEIR NEW EP 'WHITE NIGHT' ON MARCH 2ND 5 Feb 2010, 2:02 pm
The Postelles met in high school on NYC’s Upper West Side and have spent the last few years perfecting their hopelessly catchy rock grooves together. Citing influences from Motown to Woody Allen, they provide a modern take to the soundtrack of a 1950’s prom with a New York edge. According the Rolling Stone, “The Postelles channel Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello and – more recently – the Arctic Monkeys and the Strokes, building songs from brief guitar stabs and sounding like the wound-up early hours of what will be a long Saturday night on the town. There are elements of both mod and post-punk, but The Postelles have a sneering attitude all their own...” Entertainment Weekly describe the Postelles as having a “Sunny garage-bop sound,” while Spin has said, “they serve up a hooked-at-the-gills, head-bobbing rock'n'roll groove.”
The quartet has played major festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, SXSW, All Points West, Iceland’s Airwaves Festival and CMJ. They’ve recently played dates with Vampire Weekend, Yeasayer, and fanfarlo. The band is expected to announce another string of tour dates after the Hockey tour. Their self-titled full length CD will be released later this year. The Postelles consist of Daniel Balk (lead vocals, guitar), David Dargahi (lead guitar), John Speyer (bass) and Billy Cadden (drums).

Band To Watch: Fenech-Soler 5 Feb 2010, 12:50 pm
Producing highly polished gems of fantasy pop, Fenech-Soler are unlikely purveyors of crowd trembling electro-funk. Already receiving accolades from the best of the best, including Alan Braxe who approached the band to release their debut single "Cult of Romance" on his very own Vulture Label in June, November saw the Kings Cliffe quartet release "Lies" on Moda Music in the UK - a dynamic dance hit with crushing bass and synth lines that won them plays from luminaries such as Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Eddie Temple Morris, as well as collaborations with Alex Metric and Tom Staar for an exciting string of remixes.
And the madness doesn't stop there - London's very own electro-duo extraordinaire Groove Armada featured Fenech-Soler on their newest track, "Paper Romance" debuted last week on Zane Lowe's BBC 1 Radio Program - synth-heavy dance anthem that will warm our way well into the Spring. Listen Here.
Keep watch for our favorite new ones to watch, Fenech-Soler with upcoming U.S. tour dates and news announcements coming soon.

FRONTIER TOURING artists, past & present, sweep Grammy's! 5 Feb 2010, 11:11 am
Frontier Touring consistently aim to bring the best in both local and international musical entertainment to Australia and New Zealand. The Grammy’s recognition of these artists as being at the top of their fields reflects the impeccable standard of our musicians as both artists and live performers.
Much loved Leonard Cohen was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award whilst the talented Neil Young, who has toured with us a total of three times, won the MusiCares Person of the Year. Both artists received high praise whilst touring here and could not be more deserving of these awards.
Australian and New Zealand audiences surely remember Kings of Leon, who toured in March 2009 after participating in Sound Relief to help raise funds for the Red Cross Australian Bushfire Appeal and The Premier's Disaster Relief Fund Appeal in QLD. Chart topping ‘Use Somebody’ won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance By a Duo/Group with Vocals and the song received an additional nomination in the categories of Song of the Year.
Punk rockers Green Day’s album 21st Century Breakdown received the Grammy for Best Rock Album and was nominated for Best Rock Song and Best Rock performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals with their conscientious hit ‘21 Guns’. The band was here last December on their third visit with Frontier Touring, a tour that was voted in the top five of countless Best Tour of 2009 lists.
The Black Eyed Peas, who like Green Day were on their third tour with Frontier in October last year, received six nominations and picked up three Grammy Awards for Best Short Form Music Video, Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and Best Pop Vocal Album.
The Fray joined The Black Eyed Peas in the impressive list of nominees for the latter two categories, along with MGMT in the pop performance category and Colbie Caillat in the album nominations. The Fray will be touring Australia in March this year and last worked with us in 2006 on a widely popular tour.
Previously toured bands MGMT and Silversun Pickups also received nominations for Best New Artist and Colbie Caillat received two nominations for her collaborations with Taylor Swift in ‘Breathe’ and Jason Mraz in ‘Lucky’. Steve Earle, who has toured twice with Frontier Touring in 2008 and 1990, walked away with the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album in appreciation of his album ‘Townes’.
Diana Krall and her fellow song sirens Madeleine Peyroux and Melody Gardot all had the production of their albums praised. Krall’s ‘Quiet Nights’ won Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist. Peyroux and Gardot’s producer Larry Klein was nominated Producer of the Year, Non Classical and Melody Gardot’s My One and Only Thrill received a nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non Classical. It seems that three’s the magic number, with Diana also on her third visit with Frontier Touring. The gifted trio will be playing a range of indoor shows alongside their A Day On The Green performances this month.
Frontier Touring are certainly proud to have had the opportunity to work with such a brilliant plethora of artists, including those not featured in this year’s ceremony and those to come, and congratulate the 2010 Grammy winners and nominees once more on their achievement.

Beverley Knight New UK Tour Dates Announced Plus New Single 5 Feb 2010, 11:08 am
March 8th will also see Beverley releasing ‘Soul Survivor’, the third single from her acclaimed 6th studio album, ‘100%’. The single is the lead track from The Soul Survivor EP, which will also contain ‘Turned To Stone’ as wellas live tracks from Beverley’s hugely successful 100% tour this Autumn. A defiant, old-skool stomper of a track, Soul Survivor sees Beverley teaming up with the force of nature that is mighty soul legend Chaka Khan on this Guy Chambers co-written track. Beverley comments:
“When me and Guy first wrote this song I recorded it alone initially, but I knew there was another dimension to it – and Chaka was that dimension! She’s incredible. Everyone knows there are ebbs and flows in a career in the music industry. That’s what this song is about. People fall in and out of favour all the time. The thing that gets you through is the love of what you do.”
Released on Hurricane Records in September 2009, ‘100%’, her sixth studio album that sees triple Mobo award winning Knight working with, amongst others, illustrious former writing partner Guy Chambers, multi Grammy Award winning legends Jam and Lewis, and Ivor Novello winning songwriter Amanda Ghost.
Beverley plays the following dates in April: -
Thursday 1st April – Hull City Hall (£22.50)
Friday 2nd April - Rhyl Pavilion (£18.50)
Sunday 4th April - York Opera House (£25.00/£21.50)
Monday 5th April - Manchester Lowry (£25.00/£21.50)
Wednesday 7th April - London Royal Albert Hall (£32.50/£27.50/£25.00/£22.50/£20.00)
Thursday 8th April - Leamington Spa Assembly Rooms (£22.50)

The Little Million release debut single: ‘You and Me Against the Universe’ 5 Feb 2010, 10:37 am
“It’s about having a girlfriend who’s… hard, stern,” laughs frontman Jim. “It’s a ridiculous idea for a song, if aliens were to come down that she’d be sent as the first line of defence.” The brilliantly lo-budget, alien-drenched official video by Scratch Films (concept by Jim) is equally evocative: “It’s done with a B-movie black and white Ed Wood kind of feel to it”.
The three founding members, Jimmy, Jez Dennis (Drums) and Ross Bannister (Bass, Backing Vocals) met at school and all played in various Yorkshire / Derbyshire based-bands before coming together with guitarist Andy Dickinson to form The Little Million. They built a loyal following by touring the UK and Japan and releasing anindependent EP series, before recording their debut album.
The forthcoming long player ‘Satellite’ was produced by award winning rock producer Carl Bown (Fightstar, Laruso, Funeral For A Friend). An accomplished and impressive Big Rock record, the album boasts all the finesse of Biffy Clyro’s recent orchestral period with added QOTSA melodic crunch and My Chemical Romance pop edge. But it’s so much more than even that. ‘Satellite’ is an incredible debut. A rock album to anticipate in 2010 for sure.
‘You and Me Against the Universe’ will be available on digital download via Seraphina Records /Autonomy on 15th March.
The Safety Fire - Sections [EP] 5 Feb 2010, 10:26 am
Welcome to the world of The Safety Fire, a band that aren’t afraid to keep you second guessing, making you change the way you feel and they take you on a journey that combines the sound of early In Flames (before "Reroute To Remain"), the timing of bands such as Meshuggah and Between The Buried And Me and the ethos of a band that are not afraid to take risks.
'Sections' (The title track of this EP) gives us a starting look into how the band works. Fast solos (in fact three, two of which are done by PIN formerly of Sikth and Martin Goulding from Linear Sphere), mathcore style drums and vocals that make you want to sway during the melodic parts, and mosh during the screams!
‘DMB’ continues this formula right until the end when the melody kicks in for the vocals, leading us to a short ‘calming’ interlude in ‘Sululary.’ This shows off the more instrumental side until you get told "right, break over!" as the epic ‘Spoilage’ kicks in. At 7:21 in duration, the word epic can be aptly applied here and it summarises all the previous tracks up into a package and allows the progressive side to truly show, including a great solo near the end.
'Aphasic' closes the EP off with a mighty bang allowing the more melodic side of The Safety Fire to come out of Sean with his vocal work and like his peers the Arusha Accord, he carries off the balance of melodic / scream with the odd growl very well. The Safety fire have proven on the "Sections" EP that they are one of the bands to watch out for in 2010. Frankly if you like metal / tech / prog you HAVE to check these out, if you don’t you’ve missed the start of potential future stars!

Lou Rhodes - "One Good Thing" Album out 15th March (Motion Audio) 5 Feb 2010, 10:20 am
‘One Good Thing’ disarmingly documents the last two years of Lou’s life. With exquisite attention to detail, it was recorded over an intensive two-week period. This third album, which follows 2006’s Mercury Prize nominated, ‘Beloved One’, and 2007’s frank follow-up, ‘Bloom’, was recorded solely in live takes with minimal editing and overdubs to reflect the brutal rawness of its subject matter.
“Most of the music I’m inspired by was either recorded years ago or uses similar old-school analogue techniques. If I had a reference point for the recording of this record it’d be stuff like Nick Drake’s ‘Five Leaves Left’ or Nico’s ‘Chelsea Girl’.” - Lou Rhodes
Similar to those records, this is a bold collection of works that reflects a close personal unity between guitar and voice. Charting a vivid passage of her unfolding story, including the painful and unexpected loss of her sister ‘Janey’, it is tellingly the hope expectancy of opener ‘One Good Thing’, that resonates across the album as a whole.
“Sometimes there’s one little thing that lifts you up for a moment and plugs you into what’s good in the world,” says Rhodes. “There’s so much in this life we can’t control. All we can do is find the joy in the little things that happen to us along the way.”
Lou admits to being an introverted character, someone who can only transmit her feelings through the delicate power of her song, and it’s those very bottled emotions that flood so readily across the eleven songs to form the LP.
The renewed communion of acoustic guitar with her intimate dialogue was a natural one, as was working again for the first time in six years with Lamb partner Andy Barlow (‘he’s like my brother’) in his home-studio. Lou produced the album herself, but working with Andy in the studio again - tapping into his unique understanding of sounds and textures, and his ability to capture the raw emotion of her voice - brought a special warmth and magic to the record.
‘One Good Thing’ also heralds the birth of Cinematic Orchestra’s new label, Motion Audio through Ninja Tune. With a longstanding mutual respect for each others’ music (Lou has regularly guested for the band live and on record), this will be Motion Audios first album release.
‘One Good Thing’ has a passive mystery to match its poetic imagery, and just one sensitive guitar, one romantic vocal, and a flurry of baroque strings are all that Lou Rhodes requires to reach the soul and allow it to resonate.
It’s arguably her finest, most beautifully reflective work to date, and the UK’s most fascinating and articulate artist has reached to the very depths of her heart to speak it.
