Rock Reads: Bowie in Berlin: A New Career in a New Town
Despite the influence and sales of the early 1970's work, it is David Bowie's late 70's work that may be among the most notable and crucial of his career and possibly the most influential music of the last four decades. For the first time, one book covers this period of Bowie history in its entirety.
Rock Reads: Jack Bruce: Composing Himself
Fans looking for an expose about Cream need to look elsewhere. Those who want to read about the career of one of rock's gutsiest and most-respected players of all time will love Composing Himself.
John Mellencamp - No Better Than This
While Mellencamp stretches back to the depression era folk aesthetic of the 1930's he also is able to emulate the 1950's Sun Studios joie de vivre and encapsulate it all with a current day outlook. But instead of living in the past, he merely evokes the aural aesthetic and throws himself into the songs.
Heart - Red Velvet Car (5 stars)
Now fans that quit buying Heart albums can come back into the fold with glee. Heart have made a fresh-sounding album that sounds for the most part like it could have come out between Dreamboat Annie and Little Queen without completely bastardizing their own material.
Norma Jean - Meridional
Norma Jean continues to grow, mature, and stretch and challenge themselves to be better without totally reinventing themselves. If you haven't picked up "Meridional" yet, get it. If you don't you could be missing out on one of the best metal albums of 2010.
American Carnage Tour: Slayer- Megadeth-Testament
Thrash metal has always been widely misconstrued by the masses. However, in a perverse position of paradox, 100-years from now, it is doubtful that other non-metal genres of music will be able to fill stadiums across the world.

Scorpions Final U.S. Concert
On the last night of the US leg of their farewell tour, the Scorpions delivered 2 hours of a truly memorable rock-n-roll experience. During the evening, it was hard to tell who was having more fun, the audience or the guys on the stage.
Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage DVD
Songs that just a few days earlier wouldn't have even evoked a reaction from me now seem luminal. In fewer than two-hours they swiftly execute the Rush story with not just care but most importantly with heart as well. Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage turns the music of Rush from mere entertainment into a creed.
Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier
Like its predecessors, The Final Frontier recreates the early-to-mid-'80s Maiden sound, complete with Bruce Dickinson on lead vocals, galloping rhythms, and lots of cliched minor chord progressions.

The Gracious Few (Candlebox and Live)
Take 3 parts of the band Live add in 2 parts Candlebox, mix in bowl until you get a melodic consistency and you now have The Gracious Few. Although this band could easily be labeled a super group, this band is not about their past successes, it's about the present here and now.
Hawkwind - Blood of the Earth
Hawkwind has played almost every type of rock in their forty-plus year career but their specialty is space-rock and that's what you'll hear on Blood of the Earth. Lead-off track "Seahawks" sets the albums tone

On a warm, humid day in July, metaldom descended just outside Chicago as the Mayhem Fest landed. Two things were in store for the day: a very different lineup than the previous year, and a huge metal contingent of fans who were ready to throw down from the word "go".
John Mellencamp - Save Some Time To Dream
There are stories from our past, our present and hopefully our future on this solemn yet heart-tugging collection of tunes. However, it's the opening cut that has stolen my heart; "Save Some Time To Dream".
