Ego Lemos 1 Sep 2010, 1:51 am
Multi-talented East Timorese artist Ego Lemos was in Australia at the 2010 Darwin Festival last week. Lemos is internationally known for his award winning song, Balibo, which was the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. He has also recently released his debut solo album, O Hele Le, which features beautiful folk songs in Tetum, the East Timorese national language. Aduki spoke by phone with Lemos about his achievements as a musician and environmental campaigner for the Timorese people.
Remix "Stick this in your memory hole" 31 Aug 2010, 6:36 pm
Tristain Clarke's "Stick this in your memory hole" was released under a "Creative Commons attribution-noncommercial 2.5 Australia license" (more info) in 2007, one of the first printed titles in Australia to be issued under such a CC license. As we reach the remnants of the book's stock and want to make space for new titles we thought it was about time we let the book out into the wild and gave the public an opportunity to embrace CC and remix culture and attempt to remix a book.
This could take a variety of forms... You could remix the actual words within the book, or you could remix the physical book itself... That is up to you...
Where can you get a copy? You can get a physical copy here for the cost of postage only or you can get an eBook copy here.
Of course we would love to see the results of your remixes, so email us photos/videos/descriptions your creations.

Help the Adelaide Vegan Festival and get a Veg*n Shopper 23 Aug 2010, 8:09 pm
The Veg*n shopper was a very popular title and there have been several requests for aduki to reprint or rework the title and we are looking into that, but in the meantime we found 6 copies lurking in a corner of our distributors warehouse so we thought we should make them available to all of you who keep asking for them...
But there's more!
We're releasing these titles as 'pay-as-you-feel', you pay what you feel they are worth. Before you make up your mind on that front, we should mention that all proceeds from the sale of these 6 books will be donated to Adelaide's Vegan Festival on 14th November, so dig deep as there are only six and likely to go very quickly!
Head over to our campaign page to get involved.

Journalism isn't an easy profession - just ask Mark Latham. Recently, however, I met a group of journalists who inspired me to believe that reporters can create social change.

Quorn arrives in Australia 10 Aug 2010, 9:14 pm
OK, I know Quorn is not Vegan (it has eggs in it) but for all our vegetarian readers it is a long overdue product to our shores that I grew up on as a child growing up in the UK with a vegetarian father.
Advertise in The Australian veg food guide 2011 2 Aug 2010, 10:09 pm
We've had several questions about whether we're accepting advertising in the forthcoming 'Australian veg food guide', it's not uncommon for restaurant guides to contain advertising (for example The Age's Cheap Eats guide) and it enables us to keep the cover price as low as possible and to invest more in promoting the title, so we've decided to formalise the process and our advertising rate card now contains details for those interested in advertising within the guide. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you are interested.
